Shiny shoes and a haircut :)

Well, I’ve finally gone to a hairdressers’ for the first time in about twelve months or so – not to get my hair cut short of course, just a clean-up trim and do something different. I’ll post more later, bit lazy and sneaky to mention too much :)

I’ve needed a new pair of shoes for a while, the 10 hole Dr. Martens I’ve been wearing for nearly 18 months are looking a little worse for wear. It seems that Australian importers don’t bring them in anymore, so I had a choice – 14 hole size 14’s that probably wouldn’t be too comfortable (not a good thing) – or a pair of 8 hole size 15’s which will be nice once they are worn in. I went with the 8 holes, setting me back $189, not bad for another 18 months or so wear, I hope :)

Anyway, back to playing Fallout 2 – it’s just started crashing a bit on me tonight, I hope it stops :(

Starting my poi journey

I’m a doofer, and one of the best non-music entertainment aspects of a doof is people with poi/firesticks/etc – it’s also pretty good exercise since you’re always moving :)

Bob bought a set of the Ultimate Performance Poi from Home of Poi the other day, so I inherited his old glowstick poi and have decided to start learning the art.

As anyone that knows me would realise, my coordination sucks. This makes getting some of even the beginner things like even getting them spinning a bit weird to start with, but I think I’m improving even after just being shown the proper technique and practising for an hour or so today. I think I’m going to have to buy myself a proper set of poi, since the glow stick ones just aren’t balanced right – they are dog chains with glow sticks on the end, and the ends are lighter than the chains, which borks them up.

My Firefox porn tab problems fixed?

Email Battles has an article on a new change to Firefox’s JavaScript Garbage Collection. Aparrently there’s a hard limit of 4MB for some JS engine operations so that people using loads of tabs with pages full of JS will kill things. Sounds like what happens every time I go porn browsing or researching something – after a while it’ll just chug up, take loads of resources and I’ll have to either wait a day or two for it to un-fuck itself, or I’ll kill it and lose all my tabs.

I missed Poop For Peace day

Today, humanity stands on the brink. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Israel, Darfur, Chad, Nepal… across the world, violence and anger overwhelm any progress towards peace and liberty. We are a divided species, basing our hatreds on even the most arbitrary classifications, unable to move past our quarrels to embrace common humanity. Since difference is all we can see, suffering is all we can expect.

That’s why you should go poop right now.

Engine stuff is finished… I hope.

Basically all we have to do now is put the tailshaft in and hope for the best – there’s a few little things to do on that side, like get a PCV valve and an oil catch can, and find one of the bolts for the rocker cover to make it seal up properly. I know the clutch that’s in there is a bit bodgy, so that might cause a little bit of a problem, but that’s relatively easily fixed.

It started first go yesterday morning – pumped the carby once, turned the key and it was running – after a little bit of tuning it seems to be running fine and smooth. I’m glad the exhaust manifold/system that I bought off one of the forum members is cheap and all fits together; even revving the tits off the car didn’t make an overly loud noise.

After all the work on the cooling system I realised that yes, the heater core IS pouring water out of it, so we bypassed that for now – it’ll be easy enough to replace at some stage before registration.

The next big things are to replace the floorpan in the driver’s side – it’s a bit rusted out and cracked, then put the interior back together with new carpet. I’ll probably go with the black loop pile from Knox Auto Carpets since they make a good product and have decent customer service from my experience. It’ll set me back $140 including delivery from their pricing page, but after driving the van around with the vynil floor I might actually look at pricing on that – it’s harder wearing and easier to clean :)

After that I’ll have to get myself a new steering rack because the passenger’s side steering arm is a bit bent. There’s a few lights that need replacing and the interior light needs to be fixed, but other than that it should be a goer.
